Career Change Education

What exactly is meant by "career change education"? Once you have a basic career goal that you would like to pursue, the next step is to find out what education you will need.

This concept is more than just job retraining, as we discussed in the unemployment section. The reason is this: Your long term goals should involve finding your true calling, financial freedom and living your dreams! Whatever term you want to give it - you are searching for a lifestyle that fits who you are and fulfills a dream.

While you may need special schooling or training for any short term job, career change education focuses on your long term goals. If you have a certain passion that you plan on turning into a career then you probably already know a lot about the subject. Perhaps you will just need to read a few books or do some online research.

Do you plan on starting your own business? This option will be discussed in more detail in upcoming sections. Determine what education you will need depending on the type of business: Will you need to take a class in accounting or business start-up? Or maybe learn how to design a website for an online business?

My main message in this section is that "education" can be a number of things. While a college degree might be needed in some situations, that is not always the case. If your dream is to become a respiratory therapist or an engineer, then you will obviously need to attend a college. If your dream is to turn a hobby into a profitable business then you will need a less formal education.

So to put it simply - your task is to figure out what you need to know for what it is you want to do. Make a list of everything you need to learn, and that will help determine what career change education you need.

Here are a few possibilities to get you thinking:

  • Books pertaining to your career choice
  • Trade magazines
  • Online college courses
  • Seminars
  • Trade shows
  • Talk to people with knowledge in your field
  • Online search for related articles
RESEARCH! Either online, offline or both - whatever you feel comfortable with.

Once you figure out what you need to know then you should be able to figure out a way to learn it. When I started this website I knew nothing about how to write or design a website!

Whenever you follow your passion the rest will come easy. Educate yourself and be ready for your career change!
